Clark County Elder Neglect Lawyers
More and more people are choosing to retire in Nevada. Not surprisingly, the nursing home industry has grown up here as well. While many nursing homes provide satisfactory care, some do not. These subject elderly and disabled residents — some of the most vulnerable adults out there — to nursing home neglect and outright abuse.
At Eglet Wall, we hold nursing homes, residential care facilities and assisted living facilities accountable for the harm they cause. Our team of experienced trial lawyers is well equipped for the job. We have achieved a history of multi-million dollar jury verdicts and settlements for injured people and their families, and we have come to be regarded as one of the leading personal injury law firms in Nevada. Pursuing compensation for the victims of nursing home abuse and neglect, our trial lawyers file lawsuits in courts throughout Nevada.
Attorneys at our Las Vegas law firm represent people who have suffered a wide range of harms in Nevada nursing homes:
- Bed sores
- Wandering off, leading to exposure
- Malnutrition
- Dehydration
- Misuse of physical and chemical restraints
- Medication errors
- Repetitive falls, leading to fractures/broken bones
- Infection/sepsis
- Physical and sexual abuse
Many of these injuries happen because of neglect. While nursing homes claim to provide superior care, this is far from the truth. Many cut corners to increase profits. They under-staff nursing homes so that nurses and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) do not have time to give patients the care and attention they need.
Sometimes, nursing homes fail to conduct necessary background checks on the people they hire. They have been known to hire people will criminal backgrounds who then subject nursing home residents to physical and sexual abuse.
Detecting Nursing Home Neglect and Abuse
Sometimes families fail to realize that elder abuse is happening until it is too late. To help detect and prevent abuse, there are some things you can do. The most important is regularly visiting your loved one often and keeping your eyes open while you are at the nursing home.
Don't be afraid to examine your loved one closely. It is okay to move your loved one to examine for bed sores, which commonly form at the base of the spine or backs of ankles — points on the body that are more likely to rub against a bed or wheelchair. You may also examine for unexplained bruises or other injuries.
You should also note your loved one's living situation. Make sure that food and water are available, that the surroundings are clean and that the call button works. When you press the call button, a nurse or CNA should respond promptly.
Sudden changes in your loved one's mood can also be signs of nursing home abuse or neglect. If your loved one seems withdrawn or unusually unhappy, these emotions can be signs of serious problems.
